JA Controversy

JA’s pitted against each other re: land usage next to the JANM (known as “First Street North”).Big meeting in Little Tokyo last Thursday.

The issue: theatre/park/childrens museum vs. gymnasium.

On one side: JANM, the 442, East West Players, Little Tokyo Service Center, among others.

…and on the other side: parents, kids and local merchants.

Seems like David vs. Goliath

Tough call not knowing all the facts (…& politics).

To the extent a gym can promote children’s attendance to the JANM museum & 100th/442 monument, it seems like a good idea.

Interestingly, a project manager for the Childrens Museum, who attended last Thursday’s meeting to argue against the gym, did a 180 at the meeting, surprising everyone.

“I may lose my job over this,” he said, “but I think it’s a great plan (i.e. the gym).”
