Kazuhisa Ishii pitched a flawless 7-2/3 innings on Sunday, leading the Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the Arizona D-backs.Kaz allowed only 2 hits, halting a four game losing streak — the longest of the season — helping the Dodgers recapture 1st place.
“I like pressure,” Ishii said. “I’ve had the experience of pitching in five world championships in Japan, and I wanted to pitch with that importance in my mind today.”
“I haven’t had homesickness. I like the hamburgers and a lot of things here, so there’s really no problem.”
Dodger catcher Paul Lo Duca added, “He came up huge just when we needed it and showed me something today.”
Ishii is now 12-5, lowering his ERA to 3.32. Interestingly, Kaz’s ERA after the 3rd inning is less than 2.00.
