Some inside dope on the recent resignation of White House press secretary, Ari Fleishcher:
Was Ari Fleischer pushed, shoved, elbowed aside?
Not at all. His stock is still pretty high inside the White House, if not in the pressroom. But Fleischer, 42, recently got married and had to decide before the ’04 campaign gears up whether he was willing to keep working crazy hours for another year and a half.
“I enjoyed my relationship with the press corps, but it’s a relationship that is defined as a wrestling match,” Fleischer tells us. “You reach the point where you’re tired of wrestling for a living.”
“You have to weigh the thrill and excitement of it, and the proximity to the president it brings, with other nicer things in life. One of the biggest mistakes people in Washington can make is defining themselves by what they do for a living.”
