Children’s mochi

Midori informed me that Kashiwa mochi is now in season in Japan since it’s a traditional confection for Children’s Day, known locally as Kodomo no hi (子供の日), which falls on May 5.

Kashiwa mochi is wrapped in an oak leaf, and according to the above, “oak is a tree of good omen.”
