Day trip 2

Since our last visit to Santa Ynez was a quick trip up and back just for dinner, we took a more leisurely trip this past Saturday.

We started at Firestone Vineyard, but didn’t stay long, as it seemed too commercialized (and crowded).

So we headed over to the Santa Rita Hills area, where the “cooling climate of the Pacific Ocean makes this area ideal for growing and producing cool climate grapes. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the flagship wines for most of these wineries.”

We had much better luck at Babcock Winery and Vineyards, about 9 miles west of the 101, on Highway 246. It seemed like we drove through a typhoon on 246, but the rain slowed to a sprinkle by the time we got there. Really liked their wines, and bought a case of various bottles.

It was fun just driving around, and even deciding where to have dinner. We ended up at Restaurant Marcella, at Fess Parker’s Wine Country Inn & Spa, in Los Olivos. Food was great, and we really enjoyed the nice quiet atmosphere.
