Bob Scheiffer of CBS News Face the Nation will be retiring in January after the presidential inauguration.
He’s one of the best news anchors in my opinion, cutting through the noise and unafraid to ask politicians the tough, smart questions.
For all the time he spent on “Face the Nation” querying presidents, senators and cabinet members, Mr. Schieffer’s most prominent assignment was arguably the 18 months he served as interim anchor of the “CBS Evening News,” from March 2005 until late August 2006.
Over that time, he provided stability to a newscast, and news division, jolted by the abrupt departure of Dan Rather, who had been its public face for three decades.
You can read more about his interim anchor assignment from my post last April.
